- Abstract
The article examines the provisions of the 1972 Antiballistic Missile (ABM) treaty signed by both the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It is stated that the treaty places severe limitations in the development and deployment of ABM systems. According to Albert Carnesale, U.S. delegate to the Strategic Arms Limitations Talks (SALT), deployment of any extensive BMD system would probably violate the 1972 ABM Treaty.
