- Abstract
Purpose: Disease activity can affect daily life functioning negatively due to symptoms such as pain, movement restriction, etc. in patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between disease activity and functionality in AS patients. Methods: 241 AS patients were included in this study. Disease activity was assessed by Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Scale (BASDAI), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), functional status was assessed by Dougados Functional Index (DFI) and Health Assessment Questionnaire for Spondyloarthropathies (HAQ-S). Spearman correlation test was used to evaluate the data. Results: 62.2% of 241 patients were female. The mean age of the subjects was 36,78 ± 11,64 and the body mass index (BMI) was 24,82 ± 4,08 (Table 1). BASDAI scores showed a good positive correlation with BASFI, DFI, and HAQ-S scale scores (respectively r=0.673, r=0.617, r=0.664, p<00,1)(Tablo2). Conclusion: It was seen that function was affected by disease activity in AS patients. In this period, they need to be encouraged to maintain their functionality.
