- Title
Don't leave them alone! "Citizen managers" can make the difference in Italy's Kentish plover conservation.

- Abstract
The Kentish plover, a bird species in southern Europe, has been declining due to threats from beach-related tourism and other factors. Scientists have published reports on field sampling protocols and national trends, while local volunteers have taken autonomous actions to protect nests. However, there is a divide between national strategies and local circumstances, with citizens lacking resources and coordination. The article suggests that citizens can play a role in conservation efforts by carrying out simple actions, such as beach clean-ups and dune delimitation. Scientists should provide guidelines and training for these "citizen managers" to improve motivation and effectiveness.
