- Abstract
The author comments on a study regarding healthcare professionals and parents of children with congenital heart disease that were found to value health states similarly. The health state descriptions could be used as a tool during discussions with parents and children. It enables them to make informed choices regarding cardiac surgery or management options. The British National Service Framework states that children, young people and their families should be actively involved in all decisions affecting them.
