Abstract
The article offers information on the exquisitely crafted hardwood atlatls (spear throwers) with carved scenes and used as luxury ceremonial objects lacking finger loops or signs of wear. Topics discussed include the collection of atlatls at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian; and lack the understanding of recent scholarship related to descriptions of the atlatl carvings.
