- Title
To treat or not to treat? Medication underuse headache, a novel reframing.
- Authors
Sandoe, Claire H.; Becker, Werner J.
- Abstract
The article explores the concept of "medication underuse headache" and its impact on the treatment of migraines. The authors argue that the underuse of migraine medications can negatively affect the course of the disease and propose that the treatments used matter in preventing the chronicization of migraines. The paper discusses the shifting goals of therapy in migraine treatment and the importance of preventing the worsening of migraine burden. It also examines different strategies for medication use and highlights the need for further research on optimal treatment initiation timing. The authors suggest that educating patients and healthcare providers about the effectiveness and tolerability of newer treatments may reduce the number of patients with higher migraine disease burden.
