- Authors
O'Connor, Mary; Lincoln, Jennifer; Conway, George A.
- Abstract
The article reports that 90 occupational fatalities that were the result of 54 air crashes occurred in Alaska during 2000-2010. It states that 39 percent of the air crashes that occurred during the period were due to takeoffs or landings at sites that were not registered with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Other reasons cited were poor visibility due to bad weather, pilot's loss of control, failure to maintain clearance from water, terrain or objects and engine or components failures. Experts recommended focusing safety interventions on providing better weather information to reduce aviation-related fatalities. INSET: What is already known on this topic?.
