- Abstract
The author comments on a study published within the issue which described efforts to validate universal screening methods for congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in newborns in the U.S. A brief information on the epidemiology of congenital CMV is offered. The author highlights the public health benefits of universal newborn screening. The author also explains that the study addressed the issue of the availability of a highly sensitive and specific screening method.
