- Abstract
The article presents a summary of an analysis of data from the 2008 National Health Interview Survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on cigarette smoking among adults and smoking cessation trends. A 3.5 percent decline in the proportion of U.S. adults who were current cigarette smokers was found during 1998 to 2008, but there was no significant change in overall smoking prevalence from 2007 to 2008. An editorial note from the CDC is presented, which cited several limitations of the report.
