- Title
Tackling Mercury Pollution.
- Abstract
The article reports on a February 20, 2009 decision of more than 140 countries to agree to work towards establishing a treaty to curb mercury pollutants that affect millions of people across the globe. Ministers from the countries also agreed on an interim plan to reduce pollution which contained mercury while waiting for the treaty to be completed because they felt the risk to human health from mercury was so substantial that it warranted immediate action. The interim plan called for an increase in efforts to safely stockpile mercury and reduce mercury in some products, such as thermometers.
