- Abstract
This article presents the clinician's corner where a case study is presented. A 68-year-old man with a history of melena was found to have a suspicious mass in his colon. His heavy smoking history resulted in a chronic daily cough and the diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The patient needs surgery for the possible colon cancer but he is worried about his surgical risk due to his lung disease. An assessment of his cardiac and pulmonary risk factors are reviewed. For the patient, the answer will come by weighing the risk of surgery to the risk of doing nothing.
