- Abstract
Water is an important facet of our everyday life. It plays an important role in the regulation of varying processes in the body as well as it is useful for many different recreational activities. The bottled water industry has increased over the years, and as such, this study was aimed at determining the microbial quality of packaged water sold locally. The Multitube Fermentation Test / Most Probable Number (MPN) method was employed in this study. Based on the MPN index obtained, all samples had an estimation of < 0.03g/mL of coliforms, thereby meeting the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of zero coliform per 100 ml of water, thus rendering it safe for human consumption.
