- Abstract
The article presents information on the formation of European communities, international trade, and the prospect of world unity. The Organization for European Economic Cooperation was created in 1949, uniting 18 European countries to aid Marshall Plan. It was replaced by the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OCED) in 1960. The author notes that the 24 members of the OCED represent two-thirds of the world's production of goods, three-fifths of world's exports, and four-fifths of the international aid to developing countries. Other projects for European unionization are discussed including the European Free Trade Area, the European Economic Area, and the European Defense Community.
