- Abstract
Pen-named as "Hâşim,", "Haşim Baba", "Hâşimî", "Üsküdarlı Hâşim Baba", "Üsküdârî" and "Bandırmalı-zâde", Mustafa Hâşim Efendi, is one of the the leading sufi poets of the 17th. Century. He was raised and trained according to the Celveti rules of conduct and tradition but the preferred to practise the Bektashi path in sufism. He served as a Dedebaba, as a sheik in one the Bektashi dergahs. He is already known with his works titled Dîvân, Vâridât, Ankâ-yı Maşrık ve Devriyye-i Ferşiyye. His works in prose outdid those in verse. His verses' single source is the sufism which he he tried to practise throughout his life. Though he wasn't received fully as a Celveti nor as a Bektashi by the disciples of the both paths, he lived fully the joy and spirits of sufism and reflected it in his works. This article studies the poetry of Haşim Baba, who was treated as a an important literary figure in his life time. It also examines the themes, poetic style, and linguistic and stylistic qualites in his verse. His poetry is also studied critically in order to pay attention to some flaws of expression and meter.
