- Abstract
IS 2062 structural steel is frequently used in fabrication industries, as its weldability is quite excellent. In this research article, the experiments have been conducted by application of factorial design to determine the effect of some relevant and irrelevant input process parameters of gas metal arc (GMA) welding namely arc voltage, wire feed speed, and gas flow rate analyzed on weld bead geometrical response like weld bead width, reinforcement, and weld penetration. IS 2062 structural steel was used as the base metal. To predict the weld bead width, reinforcement, and penetration a statistical model was generated and to predict and optimize weld bead geometry by application of response surface methodology (RSM) by design expert software. Good agreement was found between observed and predicted values. Analysis of variance approach was applied to check the adequacy of the developed model.
