- Title
DECISION MAKING AT THE TOP EXECUTIVE LEVEL.
- Authors
Dennison, Henry S.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of economic theory, statistics and economic practice in the decision making of top level management. The article describes Dennison Manufacturing Co. and the top level decisions taken in this company. The principal manufacturing plant is at Framingham, Massachusetts, while box manufacture is carried on at Marlboro. Marketing operations for the United States are carried on through five sales areas. The business has a net capital of some $14,000,000. The investment has developed entirely from reinvested earnings. From a structural standpoint the company operates through four main divisions: manufacturing, marketing, financial, and research. The central concept of sustained growth and such ideals as dependable merchandise, man-to-man relations with employees, election of directors by the managerial group, mutual interests with customers and suppliers, and fair return to investors have come to form the pattern or frame of reference within which decisions are made. The decision making is done by board of directors. Every problem of decision making is given its required time.
