- Authors
Wong, Cynthia A.; Stevens, Hanna
- Abstract
The authors examine the association between labor epidural analgesia and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) based on studies. Topics discussed include the occurrence of ASD in 1.51% of children born to mothers who received epidural analgesia according to provincial data from British Columbia, lack of significant association in a study conducted using Danish databases, and benefits of neuraxial labor analgesia such as reduced fetal exposure to anesthetic drugs and improved safety for mothers.
