- Title
After Heart Attack, Growth Factor Improves Scar Quality and Heart Function in Pig Study.
- Authors
Hampton, Tracy
- Abstract
The article discusses a study published in "Science Translational Medicine" which used a balloon inflation-deflation procedure to block and unblock a coronary artery in pigs, simulating the reoxygenation injury that patients experience after reperfusion. Topics include findings on postmortem examination, effect of recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor AB (rhPDGF-AB) treatment on scar's collagen fiber alignment, and the occurrence of scarring processes in all tissues and organs.
