- Abstract
This article discusses a case of a 42-year-old woman who presented with symptoms of fever, reduced visual acuity, eye pain, and inflammatory back pain, which initially indicated spondyloarthritis. However, further examination revealed that she had endogenous bacterial endophthalmitis (EBE) associated with a spinal epidural abscess (SEA) caused by Streptococcus agalactiae. Streptococcus agalactiae, also known as group B streptococcus (GBS), is a gram-positive bacterium that is commonly found in the vagina and intestinal tract and can cause various infections. This case highlights the importance of considering infectious mimics, such as bacterial endophthalmitis-associated epidural abscesses, when patients present with symptoms that may initially suggest spondyloarthritis.
