- Abstract
Background and purpose: osteoarthritis (OA) single most common cause of disability in the elderly is one of majority and treatment of patients with this disease is limited to primary care. osteoarthritis knee disease process involves an active user of a knee cartilage is damaged cartilage with decreased joint space, sclerosis and thickening of bone under the cartilage, cysts and cartilage under the new bone formation osteoarthritis will be determined. Materials and methods: A descriptive study in 1387 on 60 patients with knee osteoarthritis that 35 females and 25 males were performed. First, patients with knee osteoarthritis are characterized based on criteria of knee pain and radiographic changes are referred from Orthopedic clinics of Imam Khomeini hospital in the sari. Results: The survey taken by the Pearson Chi-square between disability and pain intensity showed a significant relationship. (P= 0.001) and also between severity of disability and weakness of the hip and leg muscles showed a significant relationship (P= 0.005) Conclusion: In this study, was proven to reduce pain and muscle strength around the knee a direct relationship with the severity of patient disability and recommended necessary actions to reduce patient pain, required recommendations for return muscles power also done. If both areas done simultaneously will be accompanied by the best results.
