- Abstract
The article focuses on the U.S. patent policy for the stem cell research and presents the U.S. Supreme Court cases on patenting of biotechnological inventions. Topics include creation of human stem cells from somatic cells, case of Mayo vs. Prometheus on the use of thiopurine drugs in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and the case of Association for Molecular Pathology vs. USPTO and Myriad Genetics regarding the patenting of recombinant genes. It also mentions various claims made by Myriad.
