- Abstract
The authors comment on a study published within the publication which demonstrated that transfer of a pattern-recognition immune receptor can offer broad-spectrum resistance against four agriculturally relevant bacterial pathogens. The authors explain that plants use two forms of immune receptor. These are pattern recognition receptors found on the plant cell membrane and disease-resistance proteins found inside the plant cell. They contend that the findings illustrated the role of elongation factor Tu receptor (EFR) in disease resistance.
