- Abstract
This article discusses the historical novel "Under Canadian Skies: A French-Canadian Historical Romance" by Joseph P. Choquet. The author was an American of French-Canadian heritage. The novel examines the Rebellion of 1837, which included resistance by the Francophone community to rule by the British Empire. This is an example of English language Franco-American literature, a notion which challenges the literary theory of "survivance," which holds that only French language literature can convey the cultural history and identity of French-Canadians.
