- Authors
Stevenson, Robert G.; Maher, Carr
- Abstract
In this article the authors answer the question, "Is there a down side to altruism?'There are some people who feel upset if, after they have performed some unselfish act, their contribution is not recognized. This problem is called "selfish altruism." It is examined in the context of support given to soldiers stationed overseas and to domestic charities. The authors make some specific recommendations for counselors who have clients dealing with this issue.
