- Abstract
This article reports on the first documented case of natural infection of Capsicum chlorosis virus (Orthotospovirus capsiciflavi) in Capsicum chinense and Capsicum frutescens plants grown in the jhum agro-ecosystem of North East India. The study found that tospovirus-like symptoms were observed in these plants, including chlorotic spots, necrotic rings, crinkling, and distortion of leaves. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed the presence of viral particles in the infected plants, and further analysis revealed that the virus belonged to the Capsicum chlorosis virus species. This research provides valuable insights into the occurrence and impact of tospovirus infections in traditional agricultural systems in India.
