- Abstract
This article examines the body of scholarship about Saint Peter Damian (Petrus Damiani), an 11th century Catholic Camedul monk, a cardinal within the circle of Pope Gregory VII, Doctor of the Church, and author of over 180 letters on theology, morality, the lives of the saints, sermons and poetry. The author surveys the works focusing on St. Damian from the 1970s through 2007. Noted and discussed are several Italian scholarly conferences devoted to the life and work of Saint Damian--all of which took place in 2007--and especial attention given to 60+ articles and books published after these conferences. The author concludes that the year 2007 has yielded much new information about the life, work and reformist views of St. Peter Damian and has greatly expanded the bibliography on his subject.
