- Title
Idora y Le Petit Hippopotamtam: océano navegable en la imaginación (infantil) antillana.
- Authors
Gaeta, Jill M.
- Abstract
This essay examines how the ongoing negotiation between place and Antillean identity has manifested in Antillean literature for children, bringing the concept of quête identitaire into a more tangible form. Drawing specifically on two illustrated works for children, Idora and Le Petit Hippopotamtam, analyzes the texts' visual and textual incorporation of places intrinsic to the Antillean imagination, Africa, France, and the Antillean islands, and how this incorporation is important in the larger social and literary context of the Antilles.
