- Title
Impregnated Glass Imitation of TURQUOISE.
- Authors
Inns, Alethea S.
- Abstract
The article presents the assessment results of an impregnated glass imitation of turquoise by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) laboratory in Carlsbad, California in 2007. Through magnification, it has found that the turquoise has spherical and elongated gas bubbles, whitish granular crystal aggregates, flow lines and wave-like bands. Its refractive index (RI) was 1.9 while the specific gravity (SG) was 2.18, which are said to be consistent for glass. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed glass peaks and presence of oil.
