A Historic "Piggyback" Diamond.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents information on a piggyback yellow diamond. In the Winter 1985 Lab notes section, a piggyback yellow diamond was described by John Koivula as two diamonds mounted together to create the illusion of a larger stone. Due to the fabrication of the jewel, it can be disassembled into two separate pendants. They were held together by a handmade 18 carat white and yellow gold retaining assembly. The top diamond weighed 4.72 carat while the bottom weighed 2.41 carat. The distribution of the color seemed even, but because of the flat nature of the pieces, the uneven color distribution would not be noticeable.
