- Title
The Sexual Politics of Divine Femininity: Tārā in Transition in Gary Snyder's Poetry.
- Authors
Whalen-Bridge, John
- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of divine femininity as presented in Gary Snyder's sutra-like poetry entitled "Mountains and Rivers Without End," and its transitions into American society. The author explores the argument that the female's duality contradicts feminine divinity and that male writers cannot coexist with it. He also tackles goddess Tārā's strategies in Tantric Buddhism which created afflictive desire without resulting in sexual exploitation.
