- Abstract
The article discusses the influence of U.S. government policy towards Indians on the writings of Herman Melville. Particular focus is given to his book "The Confidence-Man". According to the author, the novel courageously confronts the hypocrisy surrounding the colonization of the Americas and the policies of U.S. President Andrew Jackson. The author also discusses the influence of Melville on her own book, "Almanac of the Dead".
