- Title
Folkways Records and the Ethics of Collecting: Some Personal Reflections.
- Authors
Asch, Michael
- Abstract
The article discusses the ethics that guided the development of the sound recording collection compiled by Folkway Records and Service Corp., founded by the author. Among the artists included in the label are Leadbelly, Phil Ochs, Mary Lou Williams, Bertolt Brecht and Bob Dylan. The record company produced albums with themes devoted to struggles against control by large corporations and by the state, making it a place where those who were blacklisted could be heard and continue to be creative and political.
