- Title
The "Salve" Motive in Spanish Polyphony.
- Authors
Candelaria, Lorenzo
- Abstract
The article discusses the Marian motets of Hispanic artists Francisco de Peñalosa and Francisco Guerrero as important sources of ideas for updating Catholic sacred music. According to the author, the Agnus Dei of Peñalosa's "Missa Ave Maria Peregrina" is a compositional tour de force that concludes his Mass in honor of Mary "The Pilgrim." On the other hand, the "Salve" motive was incorporated by Guerrero into his five-voice motet "Ave virgo sanctissima."
