- Abstract
The article presents a discussion of the history of British legal theory, centering on the importance of consistency and predictability in law. Heneage Finch, a 17th-century British jurist, is the focus of the article. He is referred to as Nottingham, as one of his British titles was Lord Nottingham. Nottingham's seminal writings on systematic equity are analyzed, and the impact of his views on the development of legal theory is discussed. He is described as attempting to establish scientific principles of equity in British law.
