- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses Cheikh Hamidou Kane's short novel "Ambiguous Adventure." The agonizing dilemma over education, central to Kane's work, transcends not only the specific consciousness of the ruling class but also the era of colonial invasion. The problems raised by the novel were germane to Diallobé society before as well as during the French occupation. In the context of military defeat and political occupation, the real problem that Kane identifies is not that of a universal refusal to attend the new school. Such a choice lies beyond the capacity of the defeated Diallobé traditional leadership to enforce.
