- Abstract
This article discusses the use of transmission scanning electron microscopy (TSEM) to study nano-scale structures in materials. TSEM combines the advantages of SEM, such as high sample throughput and lower costs, with the imaging capabilities of transmitted electrons. The article presents the characterization results of an oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) ferritic alloy using TSEM and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show the formation of a chromium-enriched surface oxide shell and the presence of yttrium and titanium-enriched intermetallic precipitates in the alloy. The article also discusses the use of high-angle annular dark-field (HAADF) TSEM images and point analyses to confirm the presence of certain elements in the precipitates.
