- Abstract
The article "Power and Autonomy. A theoretical framework for the analysis of the platformization of journalistic media" by Pascal Schneiders examines the power relationship between news media and digital platforms. The author develops a theoretical framework to identify the arenas of power and the means of power in this relationship. It is emphasized that platformization threatens the autonomy of news organizations, as platforms exert infrastructural constraints and reinforce financial and technological dependencies. The text describes various dimensions of power and their impact on the autonomy of news media. It also addresses the role of platforms and their impact on the autonomy of news media. The article also deals with the impact of social media platforms on journalistic work and mentions concerns of publishers regarding pricing policies and the disadvantage of their offerings. This study examines the power relations between digital platforms and news media and their impact on the autonomy of news media. Platforms like Meta and Google operate journalism support programs and strategic networks to restrict news media and increase their dependence on platforms. Platforms also influence the identity and legitimacy of news and journalism. The power relations between news media and platforms are asymmetric and dynamic. It is recommended to take media regulatory measures to strengthen the journalistic autonomy and democratic function of news media.
