- Abstract
The article deals with the FSJ INGLOS project, which focuses on the integration of volunteers from the Global South in Germany. Postcolonial issues are identified and solutions are developed. It is emphasized that the integration of volunteers alone is not sufficient to decolonize voluntary services, and that systematic reflection and discussion with all stakeholders is necessary. The article discusses the structural problems of incoming formats in relation to global power relations and injustices. It is emphasized that a postcolonial and intersectional perspective is necessary to understand and address power structures and discrimination in incoming voluntary services. Suggestions are made on how the educational support of volunteers can be adapted and how empowerment trainings can help them cope with discrimination. The importance of reflective white perspectives and innovative accompanying concepts is also addressed. The author emphasizes the need for a serious recognition of the different social realities and privileges in the Global North and South. It is pointed out that the decolonization of voluntary services is still in its early stages and that further aspects such as cultural understanding, the attitude of the placement sites, and the internal structures of the sponsoring organizations must be taken into account.
