- Abstract
The Jesuit Luis de Valdivia spent his last days in Valladolid after an intense life in America. The aim of the present work is to advance in the historical knowledge of the linguistic books of the Granadaborn Jesuit, without approaching the subject from a philological or linguistic perspective. We offer an overview of the context and importance of the indigenous languages for the Jesuits and especially the work of this singular character who understood that the study of languages was, in this case, a way to reach a peace that unfortunately never came. These texts were therefore fundamental when it came to undertaking the first missions among the Araucanians and Huarpes.
