Gargano, Antonio
- Abstract
This article analyses some burlesque poems by Francisco de Quevedo (exactly two sonnets: «En cañas de pescar trocó Artabano», «Resístete a la rueda, que procura» and the décima «Floris, la fiesta pasada»). The author is convinced that the Quevedo's burlesque poetry is characterised by its inalienable quality, which is the comical effect created on the reader. This poetry is also designed to fulfil some ideological purposes, shaped by the aesthetics of the Conceptismo. This funniness acts as a façade, that hides a censure or and aggression against power, understood, according to José Antonio Maravall, as a monarchic or noble framework. It is also ;true that a burlesque poem should not be necessarily aggressive in all of its parts, as it is shown in the décima previously mentioned. Also it must be accepted that the reproval the poem carries can show different grades and types of reprobation and censure.
