- Abstract
The article examines the Jebusite hypothesis to explain Zadok's origins and the tribal politics of King David mentioned in the Old Testament. Topics addressed include the significance of the issue both in terms of the history of the Davidic monarchy and the development of the priesthood and the temple cult, the appointment of Zadok as a priest by King David, and arguments against the Jebusite hypothesis.
