- Abstract
People are born equal, but with different personal traits, characteristics or beliefs that they acquire throughout their lives that distinguish them from others. These differences should not violate the concept of equality and be an obstacle to the equal enjoyment of rights, which means that all people have the right to be treated the same regardless of their nationality, religion, sex, gender, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or any other status. Discrimination is a phenomenon that appears in various forms, in all spheres of social life, and states take drastic measures to deal with it. In general, my research is focused on the role of the Republic of North Macedonia, specifically the national and international legislation in the fight against discrimination in the RNM. Apart from the ratified international agreements, the Constitution and the laws, I researched the Ombudsman, Equal Opportunities Advocate and the Commission for Protection against Discrimination, which make a special contribution to the fight against discrimination in the Republic of North Macedonia. The Commission for Protection against Discrimination, which as an independent body works in accordance with the competences established by law, cooperates with appropriate national bodies of other countries, as well as with international organizations in the field of protection against discrimination, how it acts on complaints, gives opinions and recommendations about specific cases of discrimination; provides the petitioner with information about his rights and possibilities for initiating a judicial or other protection procedure; informs the public about cases of discrimination and undertakes activities for the promotion and education of equality, human rights and non-discrimination. The research's aim is to understand the concepts of discrimination and the role of institutions in protecting and policing non-discrimination and equality..
