- Abstract
The article explores the history of imperialism and the development by Portugal of a commercial empire in the 15th and 16th centuries. Emphasis is given to topics such as the discoveries and Indian landing of explorer Vasco da Gama, the mapping of the Indian Ocean, the discovery of Brazil, the exchange of commodities, and the Portuguese role in developing the Atlantic slave trade.
