- Abstract
The article evaluates the effects of normal saline flush on duration of catheter patency and catheter-related complications. The current study demonstrated the equivalency of normal saline to 10 U/ml heparin flushes in maintaining catheter patency and reducing the incidence of catheter-related complications. It has been proposed that the flushing action itself is responsible for improving patency rate and not necessarily the heparin.
