- Title
EARWAX AND TINIA VERSICOLOR.
- Authors

- Abstract
The biology and epidemiology of earwax continue to be the subject of speculation. Various reasons for the existence of earwax have been postulated, ranging from host defense to ear-canal cleansing. Bactericidal and fungicidal effects have been ascribed to human earwax. Malassezia fur-fur (Pityrosporum ovale), the etiologic organism for tinea versicolor, is a dimorphic lipophilic yeast that is a normal commensal on human skin. The dry type of earwax harbors numerdus M. fur-fur organisms and few bacteria, while the wet phenotype has numerous bacteria but few yeasts.
