Criconematids are well represented in New Zealand, giving Wim plenty to work on from then and into his retirement, and leading to publication of his I Fauna of New Zealand i monograph (Wouts, 2006). Graph Wilhelmus Wouts, former nematologist at Landcare Research in Auckland New Zealand, died in Perth, Western Australia, in December 2021. He separated I Meloidogyne i , the root knot nematodes, from cyst nematodes and established a separate subfamily Meloidoderinae (Wouts, 1973).
