- Abstract
This article discusses implicit metacognition, explicit uncertainty, and the monitoring/control distinction in animal metacognition. Authors say that this new and exciting line of research has sparked debate, discussion, and further studies investigating the level of metacognitive abilities in nonhuman species, as well as shaking the definition of metacognition itself. Most of the research in the discussed research paper relies on evidence using an opt-out response, an option simultaneously presented with other response options. Differences between metaognitive monitoring and control have not been explicitly addressed with respect to animal cognition.
