- Title
Individualistic Perfectionism versus Objectivism: A Distinction Without Much Difference?
- Authors
Bissell, Roger E.
- Abstract
This article explores the differences between individualistic perfectionism and objectivism in Ayn Rand's ethical theory. It argues that Rand's theory aligns more closely with individualistic perfectionism, which emphasizes personal growth and self-perfection, rather than selfish egoism. The author examines Rand's definitions of value and the good, emphasizing her focus on the actual rather than the potential. They also discuss the role of practical wisdom in determining the actual good in specific circumstances. The article suggests that the differences between individualistic perfectionism and objectivism may not be as extensive as previously believed.
