- Title
Robert Bale's chronicle and the second battle of St. Albans.
- Authors
Kleineke, Hannes
- Abstract
This note discusses and prints a hitherto unpublished final page of the chronicle traditionally attributed to the London scrivener Robert Bale, contained in a manuscript in the library of Trinity College Dublin. The new passage was apparently written in London within days of the second battle of St. Albans in February 1461, and thus represents the earliest known account of the engagement. On the basis of evidence from the records of the Westminster law courts it is suggested that the passage may have been written while the author was imprisoned for debt.
