- Abstract
Either taken in a limited sense as a production system, or taken as a whole accumulation regime, it is clear that Fordism has brought so many changes not only in the economic field; but also in the political, social and cultural spheres. The decrease in the workday to eight hours and the increase in the daily wage to five dollars by Henry Ford in 1914, is a key moment in the emergence of mass culture. The rise of the daily wage increased the consumption opportunities, and the worries arising from the increasing leisure time lead to mass culture. As there is a causality between the Fordist accumulation regime and mass culture, there are also some similarities between the logic of Fordist production and the basic characteristics of mass culture products.
